It's the small things like walking and biking

Sometimes it's the small things that give you the most joy.I would pay a little extra in taxes if all the money were earmarked to put in sidewalks so I could take nice summer evening walks.

I grew up in Queens New York. I have zero desire to ever live there again. I love it here in the South and Douglasville in particular. The people are nicer, the schools are better, and I actually have a nice backyard. I could go on and on; however, there is one thing that I do really miss about New York. It's a small thing but it really bugs me.

Being able to walk or bike almost anywhere. We live right past the intersection of Chapel Hill and Anneewakee. When they built the new Publix and fixed the bridge on Anneewakee they put in side walks and bike trails, well not really. All they did was make me miss sidewalks even more. The problem is that the bike and walking paths they built don't really go anywhere. It would be great to be able to walk or bike from my house to Publix. Just pick up a few things and walk back home by myself or with the kids. It's the same with the elementarty and high school. We live less than a mile from those schools, but because of no paved sidewalk, it's dangerous for the kids to walk to and from school. I can't help it, here comes another "back in my day" (Que the rough gravely old man voice).

Really though, when I was a kid my mom would give me money to take the public bus to school, the school bus didn't cover our area, to have some money in my pocket my friends and I  would walk home the six miles from school. After school, we would get on our bikes and ride to the park.  Wait, who am I kidding? My last post was about how my kids won't go outside in our own sub-division and play. Do I really think they would walk or ride their bikes out of the sub-division. Oh well It's still nice to envision a nice walk in the summer evening. Even if I would be my myself. Come on folks who would join me in a nice summer evening walk?
