With tomorrow, Sunday, May 12th., being Mother's Day, my thoughts and prayers will be with the four mother's whose lives have been shattered. The mother of the teacher's two small children, his wife's mother, the teacher's mother, and the mother of the student. The teacher should be given hard time. To what extent? That will be for the court to decide. The student, if she has met the requirements for garduation, should be given her diploma via registered mail. She should not allowed to walk on graduation night. God bless you four mother's on the day set aside to honor you tomorrow. You will be in heart, mind, and prayer.

@R++-One of the Famous "Dacula Crew," the fees are not hidden as you say. They are clearly identified on the annual property tax statement as service fees. These fees are not being abused presently nor would there be room for further abuse. Collecting same via the tax bill is a way of saving taxpayer dollars by using a billing mechanism already in place to collect the fees. To do otherwise and effect separate billing would necessitate funding and staffing requirements which would be passed onto the taxpayer.

@Greg, this rezoning was not a Gwinnett County matter. It was purely a rezoning application within the incorporated city limits of Dacula, GA. The Great Beginnings Day Care was already in place before those S/D's across the road were built. Gwinnett County government was out of the mix. However, you bring out a good point about the possibility of the loss of quality of life in unincorporated Gwinnett County proper. You know the old saying: "money talks and bull droppings walks." The shakers & movers, movers & shakers, or whatever they call themselves have always called the shots in this county. That's why the county seat is located at 6500 Sugarloaf Parkway. BTW, the liquor store on Hurricane Shaols Rd. is in the city limits of Dacula. Think I'll mosey on down to Dacula City Hall and apply for that Admin. Clerk's job. Kristi would be delighted. Jimmy Orr & Jimmy Wilbanks in the same building would give her more stuff to write about than the AJC ever thought about.

Good Morning, NGW. I have one question. When am I going to be able to do yard work without looking over my shoulder at the gathering rain clouds? Probably around mid-July I'll be wishing for those clouds.

I also drive this corridor daily and I see nothing wrong with what Mr. DeLatour is/was petitioning the City of Dacula to do. As I understood from reading his request online to rezone the property in question, his drive-thru cafe is for those dear moms (and dads) who drop their kids off at Great Beginnings as early as 6 AM so they can drive thru and "garb a bite" for breakfast before continuing their way to work. As I understand/stood it, the cafe will not be for public use. If I lived in the corporate city limits of Dacula, I would have attended the meeting and petitioned for a traffic light at the entrance to the day care so as those dear souls leaving the facility and attempting to turn left during peak traffic flow on Harbins could do so safely. Besides, a traffic light at this location would build an interval between here and S.R. 316 thereby allowing those dear souls who dropped their kids off at Alcovia Elementary to also turn left onto Harbins safely. BTW the traffic light at Great Beginnings would be functional during peak AM & PM traffic and flash caution otherwise. Are you listening/reading, Kim Conroy?

@Kristi, Thank YOU! Perhaps you have answered my question or more importantly, perhaps you have asked the question: "What Are They Hiding?" Selah

@Shelly, I opened the link in your blog to see the GCPS IE2 perfomance goals. A long list of schools came up. When I clicked on the IE2 goals for a particular school, none were displayed. Is there a possibility that the goals are being revised, the goals have been removed, or the link is incorrect? If the IE2 goals are a matter of public record, it would seem that this information would be accessible.

HB 159 has absolutely nothing to do with this issue. It was a bad piece of legislation in the 2013 session of the Georgia General Assembly and it will, if the lad from Snellville brings it up again in the 2014 session, be a bad piece of legislation in the 2014 session of the Georgia General Assembly.

Shelly, I take no credit for this recommendation. It came from someone who saw my comment yesterday and responded to me via email asking had this been referred to the AJC. If not, I recommend that you send yesterday's blog and today's blog and any subsequent blogs on this issue which might be forthcoming to Bill Torpy at the AJC. He was the writer that wrote the AJC Exclusive: Cheating Our Children which appeared in the April 21, 2013, edition. The article pointed out the Atlanta Chamber's efforts to surpress the APS cheating scandal. Your call. BTW, allow me to repeat myself in a comment I made to yesterday's blog. When it comes to the inner sanctum of the BOC, C of C, and GCPS we, the unwashed, cannot pierce that veil.
