The Live Healthy Douglas Coalition partnered with Chestnut Log Middle School to enter an Alcohol Prevention Public Service Announcement (PSA) Contest. The contest was part of the Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD)/Office of Prevention Services and Programs (OPSP) statewide alcohol awareness campaign. The Live Healthy Douglas Coalition and Douglas Public Health are part of the Region 1 communities and the contest was part of the Alcohol Awareness Month community education events. Jeromie Hand, 17 of Douglasville, and Adrian Bond, 18 of Shelbyville, TN, have been arrested and charged with arson and several other charges in connection with the burning of the General Western Cotton Mill on May 12, Douglas County Sheriff Phil Miller said in a press conference this afternoon. Terry Carringer, 18 of Hiram, and Christopher Roberts, 20 of Douglasville, will face the same charges, including interference with government property, criminal damage to property and burglary, as soon as they are arrested, either this afternoon or Wednesday morning, according to Miller. Tycarious Harper, 17, was charged with willful obstruction and hindering of law enforcement Wednesday and released on $1,000 bond. According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Facebook page, the office received a report of a forced entry burglary on May 12 at 1884 Blanch Dr. The responding deputies canvassed the neighborhood and were able to identify two suspects through witness statements. On May 16 the case was assigned to Investigator Gray in the Criminal Investigations Division. Through evidence at the scene, witness statements and a thorough an investigation, the two suspects were arrested in connection with case on Wednesday. Hightower’s Memorial Chapel and Cremation Service honors area high school seniors with our Outstanding Citizen Program. The program has two parts-a monthly award and a yearly award. Each month during the school year, each high school in Douglas County nominates one senior to receive the Outstanding Citizen of the Month award. Recipient selection is based on several criteria relating to character, integrity, conduct, participation in school and extracurricular events as well as community involvement. The program is not academics based.
