Dennis Martin Hand, 61 of Douglasville, passed away Wednesday, April 24. He was born Dec. 16, 1951 in Atlanta. Mr. Hand was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was the proprietor of Corvette Originals conducting business more than 37 years in Douglas County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Caroline Martin Hand. Herbert Clay Fouts, 91, a long time resident of Douglasville, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 22. He was born Dec. 19, 1921 in Milton County, Roswell. Mr. Fouts was a miller and owned and operated Fouts Mill on Bear Creek grinding corn into cornmeal and wheat into flour as well as caring for livestock. He kept all his surroundings in a beautiful picturesque state as long as he was able. He was a medic in World War II stationed in Hokaido, Japan at the end of the war. He loved the outdoors and above all else his family and wife. He was very special and will be sorely missed by all who loved and knew him. James E. Thompson, 72 of Marietta, formerly of Douglasville passed away April 10. He was born May 8, 1940 in McDonough, a son of the late Arthur W. Thompson and Otrell Hightower Thompson. James was retired from the U.S. Army and was a self employed electrician and plumber. Surviving are his daughter Angela Frady; son Larry Thompson; brothers Charles R. Thompson and Billy Joe Thompson. Mr. Thompson was cremated and a graveside memorial service will be held Friday, April 19, at 1:30 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA. Elva Arbutus Smith “Bo” Harris Burns, 83, of Douglasville, passed away Tuesday, April 9. She was born Jan. 30, 1930 in Hemphill, W.VA. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Salisbury; parents, Fitzhugh and Mary Smith; brother, Hugh Smith; and sister-in-law, Pat Smith. Mrs. Burns was a graduate of Concord College with a Bachelor of Science degree and Georgia State University with a Masters of Education degree. She was employed with the Atlanta Public School System at Ragsdale Elementary teaching first grade and later for Fulton County as a long term substitute. Mary H. “Suzie” Fowler, 93, of Douglasville passed away April 8. She was born in Atlanta, on Sept. 12, 1919, a daughter of the late Joseph Hodgson and Lillian Logan Hodgson. Suzie graduated in 1937 from Washington Seminary in Atlanta and then attended the University of Georgia. She served as a captain in the U.S. Army and was a member of The American Red Cross during WWII, serving in Italy. On Aug. 18, 1945 she married Alpha A. ‘Sonny’ Fowler, Jr. who was serving in the U.S. Air Force in Capri, Italy. Mrs. Fowler was a Sunday School teacher for approximately 65 years at the First Baptist Church of Douglasville (The Joy Class). Henry ‘Hank’ Farrar, 86 of Roopville, GA., passed away Tuesday, March 26. He was born Oct. 1, 1926 in Patterson, NJ. Mr. Farrar was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany as a Sgt. in the armored division. He was a mechanical engineer in research and development and worked for Uniroyal for 15 years and was self-employed as co-owner of Stichbonders, Inc. of Franklin, GA., for 15 years. William Oneal ‘Grumpy’ Price, 87 of Douglasville, passed away Wednesday, April 3. He was born Sept. 24, 1925, in Anniston, AL. Mr. Price was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. He was retired from the City of Atlanta Traffic Control Division as an Electrical Engineer.
