Speak Out: Should Veterans Day Be a School Holiday?

Public schools will be one of the few government services in operation today. Tell us what you think about that.

Banks are closed today. So are post offices. But schools will still be in session. Veterans Day was Sunday, and because the holiday fell on the weekend, many entities will observe the holiday today, including the federal government, which will be giving many of its employees the day off, according to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. Today is also a holiday for the state of Georgia, one of the 12 holidays state employees will observe this year. While most other government-related offices will be closed for the day, students this morning will be heading to classes in the Cobb, Douglas, and Paulding county school systems.
