A Cobb County grand jury has indicted a former sheriff's deputy from Douglasville on charges of rape, sexual assault against persons in custody, violation of oath by public officer, and other charges. In a warrant, Cobb authorities alleged that 51-year-old Alvin Blake Sutherland made physical contact with an unamed female inmate at the Cobb jail on Jan. 11. He was fired from his job and arrested Jan. 18. But Kim Isaza, the spokeswoman for Cobb District Attorney Vic Reynolds, said this afternoon that the indictment alleges that Sutherland had sexual encounters with not just one, but four female inmates. A little more than two weeks after a Cobb County deputy was arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a female inmate, a second deputy has been accused of the same thing. An internal investigation initiated after the Jan. 18 arrest of Alvin Blake Sutherland, of Douglasville, uncovered more alleged misconduct involving another deputy, according to WSB-TV. A Cobb County deputy from Douglasville has been accused of sexually assaulting a female inmate, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. A warrant alleges Deputy Alvin Blake Sutherland, 51, made physical contact with an unamed female inmate at the Cobb jail on Jan. 11. Sutherland is charged with aggravated sodomy, aggravated sexual battery, sexual assault by a member of law enforcement, and violation of oath of public office, according to the report. Arrest records indicate that Sutherland remains in the Douglas County jail. Bond is expected to be set at $100,000, according to the AJC.

Dennis Keith Brown, 52, a former Lithia Springs High School teacher, plead guilty Wednesday to custodial sexual assault in exchange for a 15-year sentence, three of which will be served in prison, according to the Douglas County Sentinel. “Your honor, I apologize for what I have done,” Brown said in the Sentinel article. “I lost my wife, I have lost my job, my career, but I’m the one responsible for that. I apologize to everyone for the embarrassment and shame I have brought on by my actions. ... Troy Allen Curtis, 49, will be facing Judge William "Beau" McCain on Jan. 29 in Douglas County Superior Court on seven counts of sexual assault and one count of theft by taking. Curtis was in court this morning and was re-arraigned. Assistant District Attorney Jeff Gore will be handling that case, according to an email from the Douglas County District Attorney's Office.
