Last Chance to Appeal Property Assessments

Douglas County property owners who wish to dispute the assessed value of their property have until 5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 13, to file an appeal.

Property owners who wish to dispute the assessed value of their property have until 5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 13, to file an appeal. The appeal time period is set by law at 45 days from the date of the notice, and cannot be extended.  The Douglas County Board of Assessors mailed its annual real and personal property assessment notices to all Douglas County property owners, in accordance with State law and to reflect it fair market value. The notices went out in late June. Approximately 42,290 notices (80.51 percent) revealed a decrease in property values; approximately 7,455 (14.19 percent) had no change in value; and an estimated 2,784 (5.3 percent) had an increase in value. Property Assessments to be Mailed June 29

The Douglas County Assessors Department will be mailing approximately 53,000 notices to real property owners, and approximately 2,900 personal property owners.

In accordance with State of Georgia law, the Douglas County Board of Assessors will be mailing the annual Assessment Notices to all Douglas County property owners on Friday, June 29. The assessors will be mailing approximately 53,000 notices to real property owners, and approximately 2,900 personal property owners. These Notices will give the property owner a comparison of last year’s property value (2011) with this year’s property value (2012). The Notice will also include an estimate of what one’s property tax bill would be using the millage rate from last year. Millage rates will be set by the Douglas County School Board, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners, and the Mayors and Councils of Douglasville, Villa Rica, and Austell …
