Property owners who wish to dispute the assessed value of their property have until 5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 13, to file an appeal. The appeal time period is set by law at 45 days from the date of the notice, and cannot be extended. The Douglas County Board of Assessors mailed its annual real and personal property assessment notices to all Douglas County property owners, in accordance with State law and to reflect it fair market value. The notices went out in late June. Approximately 42,290 notices (80.51 percent) revealed a decrease in property values; approximately 7,455 (14.19 percent) had no change in value; and an estimated 2,784 (5.3 percent) had an increase in value.
