The Douglas County Board of Commissioners voted 4-1 today to allow two alcohol-related issues on the Nov. 6 ballot for a vote by Douglas County citizens.
As expected, Douglas County Commissioner Ann Jones-Guider was the only dissenting vote in a 4-1 decision to allow Sunday sales and by-the-drink measures on the Nov. 6 ballot. The Commissioners made the vote during their 10 a.m. meeting today. In the attached videos, each Commissioner gives his or her reasoning for their vote. The Douglas County Commissioners will be voting at 10 a.m. to allow citizens to vote on regulating Sundays sales by retailers of beer and wine between the hours of 12:30 and 11:30 p.m., otherwise known as Sunday Sales. The second resolution will allow voters to permit restaurants to sell Sunday by-the-drink. Commissioners discussed the ordinances in their Monday work session meeting and will make the final decision in today's voting meeting. Douglas County Commissioner Mike Mulcare said he fully trusts the citizens of the County to decide on alcohol sales and will allow them to vote on the issues on the Nov. 6 ballot. Yes that was a fantastic decision on the part of the county commissioners. A special election, in which only 2500 voters came out, two months before a general election where 35,000 voters voted. Statistically, the sample is too small to be able to apply to the next vote where over 50,000 voters will probably turn out.   more ›
