Shelter Has New Hours in New Year

The Douglas County Animal Shelter is revising its operating hours for 2013.

To better serve the public, the Douglas County Animal Shelter is revising its operating hours for 2013. The new hours will be effective Wednesday, Jan. 2.  The new hours are as follows:                         Sunday             1 to 5 p.m.                         Monday             Closed                         Tuesday            1 to 6:30 p.m.                         Wednesday       1 to 5:30 p.m.                         Thursday          1 to 6:30 p.m.                         Friday               1 to 5:30 p.m.                         Saturday           1 to 5 p.m. The Douglas County Animal Shelter is located at 1755 County Services Boulevard off Cedar Mountain Road adjacent to the Landfill. Has there been a query run on the number of hours you have workers late versus the amount of dogs and cats you have had adopted. I am asking for facts yes and while I am not trying to second guess anyone I would like to see if it has helped or hindered getting dogs out. Shelter Open New Hours, Including Evenings

The Douglas County Animal Shelter will begin new hours on Aug. 7.

Effective Tuesday, Aug. 7, the Douglas County Animal Shelter will have new hours that it will be open to the Public to make it more convenient for families and individuals to see and adopt available pets. The Shelter will open at noon Tuesday through Friday but will stay open until 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday nights so that the public can come after working hours to see the animals.  The Shelter will continue to be open on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. The new evening hours are in response to requests from the public, and are part of changes being made to improve the Animal Shelter after the Board of Commissioners initiated an independent study that made short- and long-term recommendations. The volunteers cannot be running the shelter without staff there. And, by the way, I do volunteer my time and have fostered many dogs from the shelter until they can get to their transports. Unfortunately, fostering and volunteering has nothing to do with the shortened hours for the public to come and adopt.
