Robinson: Issue Is Votes 'Suppression'

Douglas County Board of Commissioner Kelly Robinson today released the following statement regarding approval of Douglas County's commission district map.

Douglas County Board of Commissioner Kelly Robinson today released the following statement regarding approval of Douglas County's commission district map. With approval, this map will be used in the upcoming Primary Election on July 31. Note that the timing associated with the DOJ’s decision was independent and mutually exclusive of any other person or entity, including expressed or unexpressed intentions. However, the short 2 paragraph letter conveying the action by DOJ was also definitive in its position to allow any lawsuit to come forth. The DOJ’s Chief of Voting Section – T. Christian Herren, Jr. stated in the letter: “In addition, as authorized by Section 5, we reserve the right to re-examine this submission if additional information…

Mulcare: Commissioner Resorted to Groundless Racial Pandering

On June 19, the Department of Justice (DOJ) approved Douglas County’s commission district map that was adopted on Nov. 1, 2011 in a bipartisan vote of 4-1.

Douglas County Board of Commissioner Mike Mulcare today released the following statement regarding approval of Douglas County's commission district map. I never had any doubt that the new county district map would receive preclearance from the Department of Justice. That’s why four commissioners very prudently proceeded with qualifying under the new district map to avoid delays in qualifying and getting voting information sent to citizens. They …

Arrested in 2004 for domestic and family violence, arrested in 2009 for assaulting a citizen who confronted him about the 18 commission meetings he didn't attend, now Ashmon has been arrested in Douglas County, GA for forgery. That's just great. …   more ›

Management Change will Accelerate Improvement at the Animal Shelter

Douglas County Commissioner Mike Mulcare elaborates on Tuesday's story regarding the resignation of the animal shelter manager, Chuck Brawn.

Late last year, with the full support of the county commission, recommendations from the Animal Control Advisory Board were made to the manager of the Douglas County animal shelter. These procedures were not energetically or consistently implemented. Some might say they have been resisted. These changes addressed first and foremost, the health and well-being of the animals at the shelter. (Some examples: intake inoculations for all animals, appropriate feeding and bedding and proper and ongoing sanitation) It goes without saying that fully implementing the recommendations of the advisory board will be a high priority for the new management. The new manager’s role is also all about building a positive relationship with the Douglas County …

The money spent on the Mayor's new car would have gone to better use at the shelter. I have volunteered there recently and the shelter was clean, but filled to capacity. It would be helpful to keep a list on the cage when the dogs were walked so the volunteers can make sure they all get some love.   more ›
