Douglasville Recognized for Sustainability Initiatives

The nationally recognized program showcases the ways in which local governments are helping to transform the region by reducing their environmental footprint.

Two cities in the Atlanta region – Douglasville and Milton – are the latest jurisdictions to earn Green Communities certification for leadership in implementing policies and practices that contribute to efficient and sustainable use of resources in metro Atlanta. Two previously certified jurisdictions – the city of Kennesaw and Gwinnett County – achieved certification at a higher level this year. The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) presented these certifications to local officials at its board meeting earlier Wednesday. The cities of Milton and Douglasville are now recognized as Bronze level Green Communities. Newly Renovated Plaza East Opens Friday

The City of Douglasville has announced the ribbon cutting for the newly renovated Plaza East will be on Friday, Dec. 7, at 1:30 p.m.

Over the past year, Plaza East in Downtown Douglasville has been getting a new look. Plaza East is located between O’Neal Plaza and Campbellton Street in what was once an alleyway that was filled with gravel and sometimes debris. It is now filled with brick pavers, pedestrian lighting, landscaping, and has access for those with disabilities throughout. This project was the result of a Transportation Enhancement Grant that was issued in 2004 by the Georgia Department of Transportation in the in the amount of $493,750. The City of Douglasville’s match was $98,750. The ground breaking for Plaza East was on Oct. 10, 2011. Disaster Preparedness Seminar Today

Meals and Deals on Main Street offers this seminar with valuable information that could help businesses and home owners recover in the event of a natural disaster.

The Downtown Development Authority and the Main Street program strive to provide free educational and training for small business owners in the city and DDA service area with ongoing events such as the quarterly Downtown Breakfast Club, Entrepreneur Day, and the Downtown Recognition Banquet.  Main Street Douglasville is excited to be launching its newest training series entitled "Meals and Deals on Main Street." These quarterly luncheons features training sessions on current business issues and will offer opportunities for individual consultation with business professionals.  The second quarter session will be entitled, “Disaster Preparedness for Businesses and Homeowners” presented by Jose Vejarno from the Small Business Administration. …

Main Street Farmer's Market to Reopen

The Main Street program is now taking vendor applications for the upcoming Farmer’s Market.

Main Street Farmer’s Market   The Main Street Farmer’s Market in Douglasville will  be back starting March 22 and running through May 10, on Thursdays, from 3 to 7 p.m. on O’Neal Plaza in downtown Douglasville.  The market will feature fresh produce, organic meat, handcrafted items, baked goods, and specialty items.
