Wednesday K-9 Sgt. Ace and Lt. Michael Barnhill attended a solar panel dedication at Nestle' Purina Pet Care's Atlanta Plant. While at the plant, Purina made a $5,000 donation to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit for this years 2013 NAPWDA Georgia State Workshop.

This year's Pennies for Police Dogs competition started last week and will continue until Friday.
Children and adults around the county are emptying out their penny cans and secret change stashes for a good cause this month, contributing all of their change to Pennies for Police Dogs charity Drive. This year's Pennies for Police Dogs competition started last week and will continue through Friday. This is the fourth year that area schools are competing to see who can raise the most money to help fight canine cancer. Lt. Michael Barnhill, Douglas County Sheriff's Department and local organizer for the event, said more than $10,500 was raised in the first two years and 1,400 pounds of change was collected last year. Students at Factory Shoals Elementary School collected more than $1,844 for Chase Away K9 Cancer and Tuesday was their reward, a day of fun with the Douglas County Sheriff's K-9 Unit.
