The Carrollton Republican in his third election in three months defeated Libertarian James Camp to earn the state senate seat.
Mike Dugan, a 20-year Army veteran and local building contractor from Carrollton, will soon be able to add state senator to his résumé. With all precincts reporting, Dugan posted a strong victory against Libertarian James Camp in a special election to determine the next state senator for District 30. Voters in parts of three counties—Paulding, Douglas and Carroll—were able to cast ballots. In Paulding, Dugan took 80.3 percent of the vote by earning 233 votes to Camp’s 57; voters from all four Paulding precincts favored the Republican candidate. The county saw 291 ballots cast out of 24,586 registered voters— a turnout of 1.18 percent. Douglas also was decidedly in Dugan’s corner. Results from the Secretary of State’s office showed that …

Early voting starts today in the State Senate District 30 Race, between Libertarian candidate James Camp and Republican candidate Mike Dugan, in a Jan. 8 special election to ultimately determine the district’s next senator. In Douglas County at the courthouse on Hospital Drive; in Carroll County you can vote at the County Admin Building on College Street; and in Paulding at the new government complex on U.S. 278. Camp lives just outside of Temple has been employed as a senior IT technician for the past five years with a small IT consulting firm in Carrollton, according to his website. Five men are vying to become the next state senator for District 30, covering part of Douglas County.
One of four Republicans will face a Libertarian in a Jan. 8 special election to determine the next state senator whose district covers part of Douglas County. Qualifying for the special primary election to determine the Republican candidate for Senate District 30 ended Friday with the field unchanged from Thursday. Four men will be in the GOP race: Mike Dugan, a general contractor from Carrollton; Bill Hembree, who resigned from his reelection bid in House District 67 to pursue the Senate seat; Carrollton business consultant James Naughton; and attorney Glenn Richardson of Hiram, the former State House speaker who resigned in 2010 following a suicide attempt and the revelation by his wife that he had an affair with a Capitol lobbyist.
