Air Force Vet Edward Eugene 'Gene' Arnold, 77, Dies

Edward Eugene “Gene” Arnold, 77 of Douglasville, passed away, Sunday, May 5. He was born Aug. 15, 1935 in Atlanta, to the late Paul Eugene Arnold and Mary McLendon Arnold. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, graduated from the John Marshall University, was a Police Officer of East Point 1962-1965 and retired from the Ford Motor Company in 1991 after a career of 26 years. In addition to his parents, Paul Eugene Arnold and Mary McLendon Arnold, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Douglas Paul Arnold and Robert Arnold and son, Kipp Arnold. Marine Vet John Symmes Pollock, 55, Dies

John Symmes Pollock, 55 of Dallas, passed away, Monday, April 22. He was born Feb. 11, 1958 in Paulding County to Janet Poole Pollock and the late John Symmes Pollock, Jr. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp and worked for eighteen years as Chief Representative for the Norfolk Southern Railroad. Survivors are his mother, Janet Poole Pollock; wife, Margaret Rose Fisher Pollock, and daughter: Alyssa Pollock. Army Vet Jimmy G.H. McCray, Jr., 78, Dies

Jimmy G.H. McCray, Jr., 78 of Douglasville, passed away, March 30, 2013.  He was born January 18, 1935 in Douglas County to the late George Harvey McCray, Sr. and Florence Grizzard McCray. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, a business owner of several entities during his career and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Douglasville. Survivors are his loving wife, Ann Rice McCray; daughter and son-in-law: Cathy and Dennis Swanger of Douglasville, son and daughter-in-law: Jeff and Carol McCray of Palisade, Colorado and grandson, Christopher McCray. Clerk of the Superior Court, Rhonda Payne, 46, Dies

Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, March 21, at 2 p.m. at the Ephesus Baptist Church with Dr. Billy Godwin officiating.

Rhonda G. Payne, Clerk of Superior Court and State Court, 46 of Douglasville, passed away on Sunday, March 17, following a brief illness. She was born on Dec. 10, 1966 in Villa Rica, the daughter of Robert Douglas Payne and Geneva Vansant Payne. She graduated in 1985 from Douglas County High School and began working for the Clerk of Superior Court’s office in 1986. She advanced to Office Manager for Jane C. Williams and was later named Chief Deputy Clerk for Cindy Chaffin.  Following Cindy’s death, Rhonda was appointed Clerk and served the remainder of Cindy’s term and then successfully ran for the Clerk’s position to continue her service to the Justice system of Douglas County and its citizens. Edward Charles Bishop, Jr., 71 of Winston, passed away Thursday, Jan. 10.  He was born June 27, 1941 in Atlanta to the late Edward Charles Bishop, Sr., and Carol Lock Bishop. He was self employed during his career as a residential contractor and was a member of the Ephesus Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Edward Charles Bishop, Sr., and Carol Lock Bishop, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Arminda Samples Bishop. Roy Eugene Parris, 50 of Austell, passed away, Wednesday, Dec. 19. He was born Jan. 3, 1962 in Atlanta to the late Alvin C. Parris and Marie Payne Parris. He worked as an office furniture builder for the warehouse and manufacturing industry. He was a member of the Lithia Springs Church of God. In addition to his parents, Alvin C. Thomas “Tom” Michael Vlahos, 71 of Winston, passed away, Wednesday, Dec. 05. He was born Oct. 7, 1941 in NY to the late Michael Vlahos and Barbara Vutsinas Vlahos. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He worked during his career as a car salesman and until retirement worked as a machinist for the Atlantic Envelope Company; one of his greatest pastimes was that he truly loved to rescue dogs. He was of the Greek Orthodox faith. Allene Elkins, 86 of Douglasville, passed away, Monday, Oct. 29. She was born March 6, 1926 in Atlanta, to the late Paul Honea and Sara Ellenburg Honea. She worked during her career as a line worker for the Borden’s Foods Company and attended the Sumitt Church of Douglasville. In addition to her parents, Paul and Sara Ellenburg Honea, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Elkin, her daughter, Sherry Elkins Morgan, several sisters and brothers. Shelby Jean Pitts, 75 of Douglasville, passed away, Sept. 27. She was born April 6, 1937 in Atlanta, to the late Walter Baynes and Aldora Baynes. She retired from the Douglas County Board of Education, Food Service Department and was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church.
