What Were Top Google Searches, Images of 2012?

Hurricane Sandy, Whitney Houston and Election 2012 were hot items. Also, Justin Bieber was a hot search among photos. Share your thoughts.

Now that 2012 is drawing to a close, it is time to look back at what people using that key search engine Google wanted to know most in 2012. According to media accounts of Google's year-end Zeitgeist, some items were obvious, such as the death of entertainer Whitney Houston and the tragedy that was Hurricane Sandy. In the U.S., Olympics 2012 and Michael Clarke Duncan ("Green Mile") also showed strong. Worldwide, Kate Middleton was among the top 10, which should not be surprising. Also, Election 2012 was No. 3 in the U.S. Images are popular online, and entertainers Justin Bieber and Katy Perry registered among the top 10 photos, according to the Huffington Post. -- What were the search terms you used most in 2012? Google Keeps Cool with Recycled Water

Douglas County's Google plant has a cool way of keeping cool.

In Douglas County, like at most of our facilities, we use evaporative cooling, which brings cold water into the data center to cool the servers, then releases it as water vapor through cooling towers, Jim Brown, Data Center facilities manager said in this YouTube post. A typical data center can use hundreds of thousands of gallons of water a day, continues the post. When we first built the Georgia facility in 2007, the water we used came from the local potable (drinking) water supply. But we soon realized that the water we used didn’t need to be clean enough to drink.
