Douglas County's Annual Charity Tennis Tournament raised $4,500 for the community.

On Nov. 17 and 18 Gold’s Gym held its 27th Douglas County Annual Charity Tennis Tournament, in order to raise money for the community. "The charity event raised more than $4,500 for good causes," Peter Freeman, head coach at Tennis Paradise at Gold’s Gym, said in an email. "This year, we were aiming to help the Public Education Trust, which would provide a scholarship to a child in Douglasville," Freeman said. "Despite the rough times everyone seems to be having recently, we had an amazing turn out. People were coming to play for their community and raise money for those who need it most. Gold’s Gym offered a $300 Leadership Scholarship to a Class of 2011 graduating senior from each of the high schools in the Douglas County School System. Recipients for 2010-2011 were: Loris Takori, Chapel Hill High School; Miranda Richardson, Douglas County High School and Erick Rodriquez, Lithia Springs High School. During the 2010-2011 school year, Douglas County Public Education Trust Fund, Inc. (PET) awarded $5,400 in scholarships and $11,626.70 in classroom initiative mini-grants to teachers.
