Douglasville Patch will present a short video each day this week featuring participants and volunteers in the Youth Against Violence Program.

Local teens and police got together Saturday as they do every week but this time those in Douglasville's Youth Against Violence Program had a recent tragedy to use as a teachable moment. The group discussed Thursday's shooting at Price Middle School in Atlanta, where a 14-year-old student was shot in the head. In its sixth year, the Douglasville Police Department's Youth Against Violence Program is a proactive approach to keeping teens out of trouble and helping them make good decisions. In the attached video, a program instructor and role model, Art Powell, says he connects with the teens in the program because he was also a troubled youth who spent time in jail. No One Injured in Downtown Train Crash

No one was injured today when a train crashed into a car that was stuck on the railroad track in downtown Douglasville this afternoon.

The Mosley and Bankhead street intersection is still blocked after a train crashed into a car at 2:29 p.m. in downtown Douglasville, according to Douglasville Police Chief Chris Womack. No one was injured in the accident. A woman drove slightly off the road and her car became hung up on the tracks, Womack said. The woman got out of the vehicle and several people nearby tried to get the car unstuck but were unable to before the train crashed into the car. "Witnesses said the woman tried to go back into the car several times to get her purse," Womack said. "Nothing inside the car is worth your life. When it's human vs. train, the train wins every time." Womack said the railroad has sent a train engine to remove the damaged train engine that …

Donate a Coat, Enjoy Music, Fun on Saturday

Bobby Tillman’s Family, Inc. (BFAM, Inc.) and Youth Against Violence (YAV) Will Hold a Winter Clothing Drive at the Douglasville Police Station/Community Building In Douglasville on Saturday from 2 to 7 p.m.

BFAM, Inc. and YAV, are hosting a Winter Clothing Drive where everyone can donate both new and used winter clothing, etc. as well as enjoy food, music, and fun in a safe community environment on Saturday, from 2 to 7 p.m. The Community Building is located at 2083 Fairburn Rd., next door to the Douglasville Police Station. It will be a day for our youth and community to gather in a positive and meaningful way; donating winter clothing items to give to the needy and homeless this holiday season. Participants will enjoy free food and music in the spirit of giving and community. Police: K-9 Cop Finds 5 Pounds of Pot

Officer Mike McDonald and K-9 partner Fino assisted in finding five pounds of marijuana Tuesday and arresting two dope dealers, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Facebook page.

Officer Mike McDonald, Douglasville Police Department, and K-9 partner Fino assisted in finding five pounds of marijuana on Tuesday and arresting two dope dealers, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Facebook page. The Douglas County Sheriff's Department's K-9 Unit and the Douglasville Police Department made a traffic stop on I-20. Fino alerted to the vehicle and approx five pounds of Marijuana was recovered from inside the vehicle resulting in the arrest of two drug dealers, reports the Sheriff's Facebook page. This is the biggest bust so far for Fino, who has only been with McDonald for less than six months. McDonald's old partner, Ayko, retired last year.
