What a bunch of morons. But if they are caught, I hope they don't get a stiffer sentence that former Douglasville Mayor Mickey Thompson received for stealing tens of thousands of taxpayers' money nor the sentences the Douglasville city council members received for the same. After all, fair is fair.   more ›

Officer Spreads K-9 Partner's Ashes on I-20 During Touching Ceremony

Sgt. A. Sanders spread his K-9 partner's ashes on I-20 Thursday in a ceremony attended by many officers from the Douglasville Police Department.

Douglasville Police Department Sergeant Ashley Sanders and his K-9 partner, Deek, spent much of their eight and a half years together working on Interstate 20. That's why when Deek died, Sanders knew his partner would want that to be his permanent home. During their time together on I-20, Sanders and Deek weren't just watching traffic go by as they sat in their Chevy Tahoe Police vehicle. During Deek's two years in the patrol unit and six and a half years in the FIND Unit, his nose was responsible for leading the Police Department to around $8.2 million in drug busts and seizures. "That's at least a 1,000 pounds of dope," Sanders points out proudly. "He tracked and apprehended more than 20 wanted felons. Deek was a tough cop but he was …

I would imagine a Police Dog is so important to the lives of not only citizens but the Officer in the car. I think it would be an awesome story to share with people in the community I bet most people have no idea what goes into selecting an animal, the costs, and training before the dog is ready to take on his important tasks.   more ›

With prom season nearing, the Douglasville Police Department issued a warning on their Facebook Page Wednesday, to only hire licensed carriers when getting a ride to that special occasion. The site then sends viewers to the Georgia Department of Public Safety where they've issued this warning to consumers: "Please keep the safety of yourself and your loved ones in mind when you decide to hire a particular limousine or party bus company. We at the Department of Public Safety encourage you to hire only those passenger and limousine carriers that are licensed by the Georgia Department of Public Safety. And, it is so simple and convenient to check our databases to see if a company you want to hire is a legal company. "In simple terms, if the …

No Serious Injuries in Hudson's BBQ Car Crash

There were no serious injuries after an elderly woman crashed her car into Hudson's Hickory House BBQ's front door about an hour ago.

An elderly woman was taken to Douglas WellStar Hospital for precautionary measures but it doesn't appear there were any serious injuries after the woman crashed her car into Hudson's Hickory House BBQ's front door this afternoon, according to Douglasville Police Chief Chris Womack. "She just hit the gas instead of the brake," Womack said. No charges are pending in the accident. It was fortunate no one was exiting or entering the building at the time of the accident, since it happened right about noon time, Scott Hudson said as he swept up glass from the front door. Hudson is one of the restaurant's co-owners. The front door glass is broken and there is a sign sending people to the restaurant's side door.

Douglasville Patch will present a short video each day this week featuring participants and volunteers in the Youth Against Violence Program.

Local teens and police got together Saturday as they do every week but this time those in Douglasville's Youth Against Violence Program had a recent tragedy to use as a teachable moment. The group discussed Thursday's shooting at Price Middle School in Atlanta, where a 14-year-old student was shot in the head. In its sixth year, the Douglasville Police Department's Youth Against Violence Program is a proactive approach to keeping teens out of trouble and helping them make good decisions. In the attached video, a program volunteer and role model, Julie Cooper, says she is excited to work and wants them to know they're loved.
