Worthan to Host 2013 'Chat with the Chairman,' Series Starting Jan. 26

Douglas County Commission Chairman Tom Worthan will host his first "Chat with the Chairman" meeting of 2013 on Jan. 28.

Douglas County Commission Chairman Tom Worthan will again host his monthly “Chat with the Chairman” meetings in 2013 beginning with the January “Chat” on Monday, Jan. 28, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Fire Station No. 1 in Lithia Springs.  Fire Station No. 1 is located at the intersection of South Sweetwater Rd. and Groover’s Lake Rd. The Chairman’s “Chats” are one-on-one conversations between the public and him on any topic that the citizens wish to discuss. There is no agenda, no sound system, and no RSVP required. Worthan began the “Chat” series in November 2007, and hosts them at neighborhood fire stations throughout the County. January is month number one so the January “Chat” is at Fire Station No. 1, and the schedule continues accordingly. …

Commissioner to Report on 2012 at Town Hall Meeting

Douglas County District 4 Commissioner Ann Jones Guider will report to her constituents on actions of the past year and plans for the new year at a town hall meeting on Jan. 26.

Douglas County District 4 Commissioner Ann Jones Guider has scheduled her annual Town Hall meeting for 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, at Ephesus Baptist Church located at 8445 Ephesus Church Rd., a halfmile west of Post Rd. Commissioner Guider annually holds her town hall meeting near the first of the calendar year, which is also the beginning of the County’s fiscal year, so that she can report to her constituents actions of the past year and plans for the new year. “I hope that many people will turn out. I will be addressing the economic situation of the County, taxes, new tag laws, road projects in progress, and answering questions from the audience,” stated Guider. The Douglas County Board of Commissioners announced it will host a ceremonial swearing-in ceremony for re-elected and newly elected public officials on Dec. 20 at 6 p.m.

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners announced it will host a ceremonial swearing-in ceremony for re-elected and newly elected public officials on Thursday evening, Dec. 20, at 6 p.m. in the Douglas County Courthouse Atrium. Maybe the chairman could say a few words of condolences for the Rodney Graham family. Rodney Graham died in the Douglas County jail after denial of doctor prescribed medical treatment. After the coroner, the sheriff, the DA, and the GBI found that Rodney died of "natural causes" the family retained the services of an attorney. "I was released from a hospital last Friday and am beginning treatment by a Gastro-Intestinal specialist," he said in an email. "The issue is a long yet shallow ulceration in the esophagus. I plan to take some time off with hopes of full recovery in November in time for our budget retreat.   "In the meantime, all citizens, viewers and voters - please vote!" Robinson Collapses at BOC Meeting

Douglas County Commissioner Kelly Robinson has collapsed at the board of commissioners meeting this morning. He has been taken to Douglas WellStar Hospital.

District 2 Douglas County Commissioner Kelly Robinson collapsed at the board of commissioners meeting this morning. He has been taken to Douglas WellStar Hospital, according to the Douglas County Sentinel. "While speaking, Robinson grabbed at his chest and appeared to have trouble breathing," reported the newspaper. "He was taken into a hallway where he remained conscious and was transported to WellStar Douglas Hospital about 10 minutes later." Come back to Douglasville Patch as this story is updated.

Shaping the Future of District 2: An Interactive Forum Scheduled

Commissioner Kelly Robinson will be joined by the County’s Planning and Zoning staff, and members of the Planning and Zoning Commission to hear what the residents of District 2 have to say.

Where do we go from here? What do we want District 2 to be in ten years - land use, transportation, housing, businesses? These are the topics of “Shaping the Future of District 2 - an Interactive Forum” that will be hosted by Douglas County District 2 Commissioner Kelly Robinson in a town hall meeting setting on Tuesday evening, Oct. 23. The public forum seeks to engage the residents of District 2 in discussions about their neighborhood and areas surrounding them. Robinson will be joined by the County’s Planning and Zoning staff, and members of the Planning and Zoning Commission to hear what the residents of District 2 have to say. Videos: Sunday Sales on Ballot, Commission Approves 4-1

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners voted 4-1 today to allow two alcohol-related issues on the Nov. 6 ballot for a vote by Douglas County citizens.

As expected, Douglas County Commissioner Ann Jones-Guider was the only dissenting vote in a 4-1 decision to allow Sunday sales and by-the-drink measures on the Nov. 6 ballot. The Commissioners made the vote during their 10 a.m. meeting today. In the attached videos, each Commissioner gives his or her reasoning for their vote. Yes that was a fantastic decision on the part of the county commissioners. A special election, in which only 2500 voters came out, two months before a general election where 35,000 voters voted. Statistically, the sample is too small to be able to apply to the next vote where over 50,000 voters will probably turn out.   more ›

BOC Approve Resolution Keeping Millage Rate the Same

Not surprisingly and even less so in an election year, Douglas County Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday to approve a resolution to keep the millage at 9.900, the same it’s been since 2010.

Not surprisingly and even less so in an election year, Douglas County Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday to approve a resolution to keep the millage at 9.900, the same it’s been since 2010. And according to a report from the county finance director, revenues and expenditures are within the current budget and no budget adjustments are required. The board’s approval comes the day after Douglas Board of Education approved its millage rate of 21.950, which makes up the largest part of the tax dollars pie, at just over 68 percent. That leaves just over 30 percent to county government and the remaining .62 percent to the state.
