Despite early rain this year, the crowds came out under the clouds in historic downtown Douglasville for the CAC’s 20th Taste of Douglasville with an estimated 14,000 people enjoying the festival throughout the day.

The Taste of Douglasville Arts, presented by the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County, is now in its 20th year with Picnic on the Plaza scheduled for Friday.
In partnership with the City of Douglasville, the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County presents the 2013 Taste of Douglasville, now in its twentieth year and better and bigger than ever before -- and an event no one should miss! Proceeds of downtown Douglasville’s most popular event benefit the Cultural Arts Council and its programs. Sherry Persons and Linda Worthan, our community’s two first ladies, will serve as our Honorary Co-Chairs for the event again this year; and our 2013 Event Chairs are the CAC Board Treasurer, Renee Kell, and CAC Volunteer Omar Daniel. The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County presents “9 String Theory” as the third and final concert of its 2013 Kinna Chamber Concert series on Saturday, April 13, at the Cultural Arts Center. “9 String Theory” features Angelina Reed, playing domra (a Russian mandolin-like instrument) and classical guitarist John Huston. The pair performs music of great variety and intense virtuosity, evoking musical traditions both ancient and modern. This season they are performing music from Argentina, Russia, Austria, Brazil, Rumania and Italy. The performance begins at 7 p.m. and is followed by a champagne reception in honor of the musicians. The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County and the Douglas County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer the 10th annual intensive arts camp Motion + Emotion+ Commotion at Deer Lick Park, from Monday, April 8, through Friday, April 12. Children, 7 through 11 years old, will explore a wide variety of art disciplines with five expert and experienced teaching artists – dance with Joi Jamison, African drumming with Mobasher Sobhan, drawing and painting with Tamara Morgan, sculptural books with Pam Beagle-Daresta, and paper crafts with Terumi Todd. This week's Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Weekend & Community Spotlight features the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County's Kinna Chamber Concert series. Pianist Joe Chapman will perform on March 9, followed by 9 String Theory on April 13 at The Cultural Arts Center in Douglasville. Performances begin at 7 p.m. and are followed by a reception in honor of the musicians. The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County presents the fifth annual Dia de los Reyes Festival, Saturday, Jan, 5, from 3 until 5 p.m., at the Cultural Arts Center. Supported in part by Planet Chiropractic with the assistance from Spanish Honor Society students in Turner Middle and Lithia Springs High Schools, this family fiesta celebrates the Latino holiday with the Magi, music and much, much more. The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County presents more than 60 holiday card designs created by elementary, middle and high school students from 16 Douglas County Schools in its annual competition. There will be an opening reception on Thursday, Dec. 6, from 5 until 6:30 p.m. for participating students, teachers and their families. Former Douglas County Schools music specialist and music teacher at the Cultural Arts Center, Nancy Whittenburger will play Christmas carols and seasonal music on the piano during the festivities. The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County has announced its sixth year of participating in the national Empty Bowls project. Five years ago the CAC’s annual Christmas luncheons began a new tradition – as in previous years, guests enjoy a festive holiday atmosphere with fine food and live music at the historic Roberts-Mozley House, but they also donate in order to select a handmade ceramic bowl created by local potters, art students and other volunteers to take home with them after they have enjoyed the soup, salad and bread donated by Red Lobster, The Olive Garden, and LongHorn Steakhouse, the local Darden Group restaurants. The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County is pleased to display recent works by members of the Sweetwater Camera Club at the Cultural Arts Center in downtown Douglasville, presented during “Atlanta Celebrates Photography,” a greater metropolitan area event encompassing more than 200 exhibits, lectures and special events every October. The exhibit opens Oct. 4and will be on view through Oct. 27.
