Community Spotlight: Mardi Gras 5K Run [VIDEO]

Want to celebrate Mardi Gras in the Northwest Atlanta area? Enjoy festive food, music and family fun at Saturday's Marietta Mardi Gras 5K Run.

This week's Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Weekend & Community Spotlight features the 4th Annual Marietta Mardi Gras 5K Run on the Marietta Square. The event benefits the Junior League of Cobb-Marietta and it's community partners. The 5K run will begin Saturday at 8 a.m., with the 1K beginning at 8:45 a.m. and the Tot-Trot at 9 a.m. For the third year, the Junior League is teaming up with Shoes for the Cure for a shoe drive. All shoe donations are welcome - not just running shoes. There will be bins for drop-off available. Cost is $30 for adults and $15 for Tot-Trot. Community Spotlight: 5K Benefit Run for Injured High School Grad [VIDEO]

Join the Lassiter High School community this weekend to support an injured high school student.

This week's Douglas, Cobb and Paulding Weekend & Community Spotlight features the Christopher Heitzman Benefit 5K Run. The event takes place Saturday morning at Lassiter High School, with proceeds to help pay for medical expenses for the injured graduate. Heitzman, who graduated from Lassiter last spring, was seriously injured in a car accident last July on Trickum Road that killed his classmate, Ryan Aschenbach, and injured another recent Lassiter graduate Tylor Seaman. Heitzman sustained a head injury and several broken bones, and will need more surgeries. The fundraiser has collected just under $40,000 from pre-registration, and is hoping to raise more money to help cover Heitzman's medical expenses. Pre-registration for the run is $20 …
