Most Sought-After Fugitive and Child Molester Dies in Custody

Charles Leon Parker, a sexual predator indicted on child molestation and incest, died in a medical correctional facility in South Carolina, eight months after being taken into custody by authorities.

A 70-year-old man who spent the last 29 years evading law enforcement officials on child molestation and incest charges, died in custody Tuesday morning, according to Douglas County District Attorney David McDade. Charles Leon Parker, a sexual predator indicted in January 1983 on three counts of child molestation and two counts of incest, died in a medical correctional facility in South Carolina, eight months after being taken into custody by authorities. County's Most Wanted Fugitive Caught

After 29 years on the run, Charles Leon Parker will face charges of incest and child molestation.

Charles Leon Parker was arrested Saturday morning in Madison County, FL, after eluding authorities for 29 years. Parker was originally arrested Nov. 24, 1982, in an incest case in Douglas County. He failed to appear in court to face the charges of incest and child molestation. Douglas County Sheriff Phil Miller said Parker was the county's most wanted fugitive. "We're proud to get him," Miller said. "To me, molesting a child is the worst crime a person can commit. It just shows that sooner or later we're going to get you." Madison County officers conducted a traffic stop at which the driver claimed to be Ross M. Healan of Madison, FL.
