Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) in conjunction with the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce Business After hours hosted a grand opening for their newly built teen center Thursday. The center is designed for youth in Douglas County. This 6,000 square foot facility can serve up to 125 kids and teens on a daily basis. Having a special place dedicated to teens is important to keeping them engaged in the Club and in positive activities. Equipped with a multi-media room, performing arts studio, stage, recording studio, games and art room, learning/technology center, lounge and a café area, the Douglas County Teen Center will be a special place devoted to keeping teens involved and active in constructive afterschool activities. Friday June 1, the Board of Directors of the Douglas County Boys & Girls Club will host its 12th Annual “GOLF FOR A CAUSE” Golf Tournament at Canongate at Mirror Lake Golf Club in Villa Rica. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit educational programs and expanded teen center at the Douglas County Club. “Each year we are amazed at the support our community gives to our kids. Never before have we needed the continued support of our county more as we look forward to doing even more to make a difference in the lives of our kids,” states Board President Davidae Walker in a press release. A 6,000-square-foot Teen Center is slated to open in March, a separate building, but part of the Douglas County Boys & Girls Club, costing $1 million for construction and taking four years to plan, according to an article in the Douglas County Neighbor.
