Alexander High School is the first County high school to hold graduation ceremonies.
Douglas County high schools will hold graduation ceremonies on May 31 and June 1. Dates and times are as follows: Alexander High School: May 31 at 7 p.m., at the University of West Gerogia Chapel Hill High School: June 1 at 6 p.m., at the University of West Georgia Douglas County High School: June 1 at 9 a.m., at the University of West Georgia Lithia Springs High School: June 1 at 1 p.m., at the University of West Georgia New Manchester High School: May 31 at 8 p.m., on the New Manchester football field.

The three-day state meet concluded Saturday in Albany.
Athletes in 10 events who represented Douglas, Cobb and Paulding schools brought back first-place medals from the Georgia High School Association girls state track and field championships in Albany. Two teams also peformed well in the event, which ran from Thursday through Saturday, as Kell High School finished second in the Class 5A meet and Marietta came in third in Class 6A. Kell's Kendell Williams closed out her illustrious career with three titles, winning the 5A high jump, long jump and 100-meter hurdles. She earned 11 crowns in her high school career, and on Friday broke her own state record in the long jump. Alexander High School of the Douglas County School System has been chosen as a top 75 semi-finalist in Samsung’s third annual $1 million national education contest, Solve for Tomorrow. Kimberly Laver’s AP Biology class will receive a video creation kit, which includes a Samsung camcorder and laptop and Adobe editing software to create videos that answer Samsung’s challenge: " Show how can science or math help improve the environment in your community.” Of the top 75 classrooms, 15 schools will win technology grants worth approximately $40,000 and their videos will be placed on Samsung’s website for the public voting round. Thomas Melvin Crook, 69, of Douglasville, who served more than 36 years in education and athletics, passed away Thursday, Aug. 23. He was born Nov. 20, 1942 in Asheville, N.C, the son of the late Thomas Albert Crook and the late Mazie Walker Crook. He was a member of the Enka High School Class of 1960. He continued his education at the University of Georgia in Athens receiving his BS in Education in 1964, Masters in Education in 1974, and Masters in Administration in 1984. He received his Specialist in Administration from the Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Ala. in 1987. Coach Crook served as the Assistant Coach at Cedartown High School from 1964-1971 where he coached football, basketball and track. From 1971-1977 he served …
