Some days no matter what one tries, things don't always go the way one had planned. Just ask theRead More Archbishop.

'flame retardant'? Some stupid liberal will probably try to change that to 'flame handicapped'.
wmsmom April 13, 2014 at 09:15 pm
No, the name doesn't need to change when it's used in the proper context. Your thoughts areRead More handicapped though, if that helps?

Now if Georgia can get some jobs for these grads. Only 2 companies in the last engineering job fairRead More were from Georgia. Sad we send our best out of state!
petluvr March 28, 2014 at 10:39 am
Yeah GT!
Road Scholar March 29, 2014 at 09:18 am
Not all Tech grads can stay here in Georgia. We are spread across the world! Another result of theirRead More enrollment policy and the needs of the world! When you are one of the best, non Georgians want you. When I was looking for a job , I had a few out of state firms state that they would like to add a GT grad to their staff. Cross "pollination" I guess!
A new camera system will detect cars that don't stop for school buses. Credit: Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
Deanna Riddlespur March 30, 2014 at 08:30 am
I think they need cameras to record the bus drivers who do not obey the rules of the road as well!!!Read More If they are going to give tickets to people breaking the laws against the bus.. how about it takes pictures of people trying to break other laws and stuff?????
Rosemary Vollmar March 30, 2014 at 09:10 am
"The system, called CrossingGuard, is designed to detect when a vehicle fails to stop while aRead More bus is stopped, then generate images that are sent to the sheriff’s office, which decides if there’s been a violation." Reporter, this is not what happens. The info is sent to Tempe, Arizona to the company supplying the bus cameras. They review the information and if a car has not stopped, THAT company sends that part of the tape to the Sheriff's department for corroboration. Then a ticket is mailed to the car owner's house (address gotten from the car's registration) probably with the photo, too, like in a red light camera ticket. No points because the CAR got the ticket because the camera was busy photographing the plate and can't tell who was driving the car. This is one step above the red-light camera money making program that this 'traffic solutions' company uses. At least an adult bus driver sees the wrong-doing car as it drives past the school bus. The company in Tempe, AZ is the real money maker here--not the school district--however, it IS just a money-making deal because there is no one stopping the cars. They just want the picture of the plate. Where is the education or deterrent for these wrong-ful drivers?? Why not have an cop on the bus occasionally with an unmarked car in the area? When a car passes, then walkie-talkie ahead to the partner and stop the driver and scare the llivin' bejesus out of them with lecture, ticket, and accident photos in living color!!? This is the same company that put up red light cameras in my hometown in another state. We got them removed on several points. 1. No officer seeing and giving the ticket who could have used discretion if the person had a really good reason for going through the light. 2. Car owner not necessarily the driver that broke the law, but car owner sent the ticket. 3. No right to appeal the ticket. 4. No right for ticket receiver (owner of vehicle) to face his accuser in court.

If you click on and go to the Douglas County Sheriff's website, it explains the school bus cameraRead More process. It is there that you will see that the explanation that I posted above was gotten---about the digital information going to Tempe, AZ first. Also, there you will see that the $300.00 fine is ONLY for the first offense. $750.00 for second. $1000.00 for third.

Want happened to the person who used to be the editor of PATCH? A Ms. Murchison (Spelling?), IRead More believe. Just curious as I thought she was a good editor.

I live in Kennesaw and have two owls living in my woods. They dont like it when I even try to getRead More pics, I can only imagine how terrified the owl "mascot" must be. Dress someone in a mascot costume and quit using Gods beautiful animals as a sick way to entertain people. Phyllis, u just have to ignore those hateful responses, some people are just ignorant.
Kirsten February 26, 2014 at 11:06 pm
Exactly--interesting, Patch, how your "sampling" of comments used in the article seemsRead More decidely one-sided.
Pam Mossack Doughty February 27, 2014 at 12:59 am
PETA actually DID try to get UGA to eliminate UGA and use a robotic dog. Not thinking that willRead More happen. Phyllis, so you're saying that we shouldn't have dogs as pets? REALLY? What is your suggestion to do with the abundance of dogs in the world? I am seriously asking you. And PETA has been documented with tossing euthanized dogs that they "rescued" into dumpsters, so PLEASE stop glorifying them.

In the photo, Sturgis has that "Yo, PETA, don't mess with my gig!" look.

Mike Ross , nicely stated! I couldn't agree more!!
David Tiffany March 2, 2014 at 10:04 am
While I agree, generally, with Mike Ross, he goes a bit overboard - just as the PETA people do. TheRead More owl undoubtedly lives better than other members of its species, rather than the other way around. PETA should spend its time and resources trying to protect animals that are truly being treated abusively. Mike should also tone it down. The people at PETA are not evil, but only want the best possible treatment for the animals that share our planet.

You should be ashamed! Thank God we have quality teachers, school workers and bus drivers thatRead More actually CARE about our children. As for you, you are nothing but a weak coward that needs to go!
Forgiveness February 2, 2014 at 11:55 am
Cowards don't apologize Susan. Dr Pritz is human like all if us. We make mistakes, we learn fromRead More them and move forward. Learn to forgive and your anger will disappear. It was a wake up call to all of us. To open our eyes to all we take for granted. It takes a city pulling together despite our differences for the greater good.
Murray Jr February 2, 2014 at 04:00 pm
I'm glad he admitted that mistakes were made. That is the first step towards making thing betterRead More next time. I think we should take the apology with the sincerity it was delivered with and see how situations are handled like this in the future. One good step was made already when they announced early that schools would be closed on Friday. I could go either way on that call, but it's good that they made the decision early enough for people to make arrangements.

This message was sent to me at 3:37 AM on THURSDAY. Not much help -- a day late and a dollar short.

Can anyone find out why they took so long to decide to close the schools and why only one hourRead More early?? At the moment they are telling me my kid is going to have to spend the night at school. Everyone knew it was coming, but they waited until the last minute to decide to close early, and by the release time the roads were already bad.
Leslie W. January 28, 2014 at 10:10 pm
cd, I have been wondering the exact same thing! My children and I JUST got home from their school atRead More 7:45 this evening after inching our way home on awful roads and seeing people sliding into ditches left and right! Douglas county schools should have been closed today! Someone really dropped the ball on this one!
