City Salutes Heroes on July 4th

The City of Douglasville will kick off Independence Day with its annual 4th of July parade starting at 10 a.m. in downtown Douglasville. Attendees can enjoy a festival, barbecue and concessions, while being entertained at the Douglasville Idol.

The will kick off Independence Day Wednesday, July 4 with its annual 4th of July parade starting at 10 a.m. in downtown Douglasville. This year’s parade theme, “Amazing American Heroes,” honors the heroic efforts demonstrated daily by branches of the U.S. Military and public service departments throughout the nation.

Come enjoy the patriotic procession, or enter your organization, vehicle or float in the parade. To participate, download and complete the online parade application at www.ci.douglasville.ga.us, or contact Alice Stephens at 770-947-5920 or stephensa@ci.douglasville.ga.us to have an application mailed to you. Participants are encouraged to incorporate the parade theme in their float designs and other entries. Trophies will be awarded to the most outstanding floats in four different categories.

The parade will begin at the corner of Fairburn Rd. and Church St. in downtown Douglasville, and will travel southwest down Church St. The route will turn left onto Rose Ave., and continue down to the intersection of Selman Dr. and Pinecrest Dr., where the parade ends. Street closures will take place Wednesday morning from approximately 7:30 to 10 a.m. and will reopen as the parade clears the roadway. The downtown public parking lot is closed for construction. Best places to park for the parade include Regions Bank and the old Bank of America parking lot on Church St. Additional parking is available at Seventh Day Adventist Church, the former Douglasville Police precinct, and the Douglas County Sheriff Office parking lots. On-street parking is also accessible. Parking maps are available online at www.ci.douglasville.ga.us.

Immediately following the parade, will host its annual Independence Day Festival & Barbecue at Hunter Park from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Attendees can enjoy a festival, barbecue and concessions, while being entertained at the Douglasville Idol and All Star Talent Contest. All proceeds benefit S.H.A.R.E. House, a non-profit family violence crisis center.
