Creature of Habit

I'm a creature of habit like most Americans and I love the instant society we live in where you can get your pictures printed right off your phone just by sending them into your favorite local pharmacy or department store with a photo printer. But, this is where we get so comfortable that we get stuck in that rut of life and can't see where to get out. Adults with teenage children often get comfortable in this rut but really, really want to change. They see a path of destruction for either their families, themselves or both because most of us didn't grow up this way.

How often have you or your friends/co-workers ever talked about changing your routine to add in some gym time? But, we always ask the question, who has time? Have you ever spent time looking up great and fast recipes online to cook for yourself or your family that was healthy? I didn't either, in fact I was always so busy that I was either stopping by a fast food joint to pick up the family dinner or getting it done very quickly out of a cardboard box.

This got me to a size where I no longer recognized myself in the mirror. And to top it all off I saw my little girl going down this path very early in her life where she was already battling a weight problem. But, like most sweet southern women, it's very hard, nearly impossible to change.

I know you're going to say that this is a story that you have read before in all the health magazines or your favorite celebrity featured magazine where that star paid trainers and nutritionists to get them to a "NEW and IMPROVED" state. This may be true. But, I am doing it on a shoe string budget. I am now a single mother who doesn't have much left over after all the bills get paid per month, so to pay someone to "Train or Teach" me how to do it is impossible. Plus, I don't have time. I have to be the bread winner and the soccer mom who's duties are endless.

Have you ever  heard the saying "A journey of 1,000 miles begins with one single step"? I never knew how that would help me in my life until I began my "1,000 mile" journey, so to speak. I do know that if you want or need to break the rut of your everyday life, or you want and need to make a change in your life you can't do it by doing the same things everyday and expect a change in you or your family. I once read somewhere that doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome was the definition of insanity.
