Lady Tigers Overpower Chapel Hill

The Douglas County Girls Roll Over The Lady Panthers in a County Showdown.

The Lady Tigers flexed their defensive muscles in the second half to defeat a scrappy Lady Panthers team 89-45 at Douglas County High School Tuesday night. Douglas County forward Christina Mercer paced the Lady Tigers with 21 points while Kanesha Looper led Chapel Hill with 15.

Douglas County controlled the first quarter with a smothering defense that led to several fast break points. The Lady Tigers came out red hot on offense, as LaTara Spriggs (14 points) hit two straight three pointers to close out the quarter. After the first six minutes Douglas County led 27-12.

In the second quarter the Lady Panthers came out firing, scoring four straight and causing Douglas County Head Coach Chet Forsh to call a quick timeout. Chapel Hill also stepped up their defensive effort to cut the Lady Tigers' lead to 10 points, 31-21. Looper led the charge with seven points in the quarter including two long jumpers with just over four minutes to go. The Lady Tigers answered the Chapel Hill surge by stepping up their own defensive pressure leading to a 12-2 run to close out the quarter. At the half Douglas County led 47-29.

The second half started with the Lady Tigers scoring six straight points leading to a time out by Chapel Hill Head Coach Christopher Scott Long. Two more three pointers by Looper of the Lady Panthers kept the score close, but they had no answer for Mercer in the post. Mercer scored eight of her 21 points in the third helping Douglas County increase their lead to 31 points, 72-41.

With the outcome all but decided both teams struggled to find their offense in the fourth quarter. Both coaches emptied their benches allowing some younger players to get some time on the court. The inexperience led to a quarter with a total of 21 points scored. The Lady Tigers closed out their second straight win over a county opponent defeating the Lady Panthers 89-45.
