Lady Panthers Can't Handle 'Hooch

Chapel Hill's season ends with a 70-44 loss in the AAAA state tournament.

Chattahoochee senior center Alexis Alexander scored 28 points and senior guard Erika Ford scored 20 to lead the Lady Cougars to a 70-44 win over in the first round of the AAAA state basketball tournament Saturday afternoon at Chattahoochee.

Chapel Hill was led in scoring by senior point guard Kanesha Looper with 17 points.Β  The Lady Panthers finished the season at 15-12.

"We struggled a little bit to score at the beginning, so we decided to turn up the pressure and try to create some points off that," Chattahoochee Coach Eric Herrick said. "I think that was the difference in the game. In the second quarter, we put a lot of pressure on the basketball and created some scores. We stuck with that because our pressure was working."

The Lady Cougars used that pressure to build a 36-22 lead by halftime. In the second half, it was much the same as the Lady Cougars' defense forced Chapel Hill into turnovers. Ford scored 10 of her 20 points in the third quarter. After the game, she was honored as she became Chattahoochee's all time leading scorer.

The Lady Cougars never looked back in the second half and went on to win 70-44.
