Golden Knights Fall to Gordon State, 95-88

The West Georgia Tech men’s basketball team lost a hard-fought contest to Gordon State College Monday night, 95-88.

The Golden Knights (1-8) trailed 45-36 at halftime but pulled to within two points twice in the second half before a late surge by the Highlanders put the game out of reach.

Six players scored in double-figures for West Georgia Tech (1-8).

Devante Orebeaux had an 18-point effort on 7-of-13 shooting from the field. He was 2-of-5 from three-point range.

Orlandis Hill (15 points), Kishon Rogers (14 points), Jalen Bracey (13 points), Martez Winston (13 points) and Ryan Jones (10 points, 10 rebounds) rounded out the double-figure scoring for the Golden Knights.

West Georgia Tech made five more field goals than Gordon State (33-73 to 28-67) and connected on eleven three-pointers to Gordon State’s five.

But the Highlanders won the game from the free-throw line, as they went 34-of-45 on the night while West Georgia Tech was 11-of-19.

Devonte Thornton had a game-high 21 points for the Highlanders.

West Georgia Tech returns to action next Monday hosting the junior varsity squad from Truett-McConnell College.

The men will tip following the women’s game, which starts at 6 p.m. Monday’s home games will be played at Oak Mountain Academy in Carrollton.
