A Weekend for Concerts, Celebrations

Here's a look at upcoming events this weekend.

Upward Basketball and Cheerleading Evaluations at
Saturday Dec. 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the corner of Hospital Drive and Prestley Mill Rd. For kids K5 through 6th grades. Practices begin in early January with first games on Jan. 7. For more information contact William Todd, at 404-577-9327.

Southern Christian Leadership Conference Douglas County Organizational Meeting
On Saturday Dec. 17 at 9 a.m., held at the , 6810 Selman Drive. Admission and the meeting is open to the public. Organizational meeting for a chapter combining Douglas, Carroll, and Paulding Counties, hosted by State SCLC Unit President Samuel Mosteller. For more information call 678-478-7048.

"Celebrations" Performances to Benefit A Gift of Love's Backpack Program
Saturday Dec. 17 at 2 and 7 p.m. performances by the Georgia School of Performing Arts (of Douglasville), at the Southside Theatre Guild in Fairburn. Admission is free and the performace is open to everyone. Bring a donation of individually packaged foods or money to help needy Douglas County children. For more information call 678-571-5483.

KWANZAA Celebration at the
Sunday Dec. 18 from 3 to 5 p.m., at 8652 Campbellton Street. Admission is free and the exhibit is open to the public. For more information visit www.artsdouglas.org, or call 770-949-2787.

Westside Winds Christmas Concert
On Sunday Dec. 18 at 6 p.m., located at Lithia Springs First Baptist Church on Bankhead Highway. Admission is free and the concert is open to the public. There will be holiday music, fellowship and fun with concert featuring Myrna Clayton.
