Did Georgia Bobsledder Strike Olympic Gold in Sochi?

Elana Meyers' bid to win Olympic gold in the Sochi Games fell a 10th of a second short Wednesday in the final day of the women's bobsledding competition at the Sanki Sliding Center.

The Douglasville native and her partner Lauryn Williams, of Miami, Fla., won the silver medal after a bumpy final run and fell out of first place. They had nearly a quarter-second lead after the first two runs on Tuesday, and .11 seconds entering the final slide.

The tandem needed a time of 58.03 seconds to beat the Canadian sled piloted by 2010 gold medalist Kailie Humphries. Meyers had her slowest of four runs in the event with a time of 58.13, according to live-stream reporting by NBC. 

The Canadian team finished with an overall time of 3 minutes, 50.61 seconds. Meyers and Williams clocked in at 3:50.71.

Fellow Americans Jaime Greubel and Aja Evans finished third with a time of 3:51.61.

Meyers, who won bronze in the 2010 Winter Games as a brake woman, won the silver as a pilot. Her sled hit the side of the track several times in the final run.

It was a rollercoaster Olympic experience for Meyers and Williams, who crashed Saturday in a practice run, and needed quick repairs to prepare for the races.

The final runs were live-streamed by NBC, and scheduled in the primetime TV lineup Wednesday night.
