Alexander Girls Salvage Victory in Lake City Classic Finale

Cougars avenge an early-season loss with 51-24 win.

The salvaged a win in the Lake City Classic at Allatoona High School on Thursday, and it came at the expense of a regional foe.

Katica Favors and Brooke Davidson led a dominant effort for Alexander as they handily beat South Paulding, 51-24.

"We play South Paulding on Tuesday night and that's a region game that counts, and so it's important for us," said Alexander head coach Brandon Boehman. "We played them the first game of the year and they beat us by three. So we came out today and we kind of wanted to send a message that Tuesday's going to be a different story."

Favors dominated the interior on both ends of the floor as she scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Davidson displayed consistent accuracy from outside as she hit three 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 16 points.

The good play was also a result of solid game-management by point guard Nicole Fasick.

"Katica was very aggressive today and we need that from her. Nicole did a nice job at the point, and those two are kind of the people that get us going," Boehman said. "If we have a good ballgame it's usually because Nicole and Katica have a good ballgame. We need them to bring that to every single game. They both brought it today at 10 o'clock in the morning, so I was happy with that."

The game was never really close. Alexander led 14-5 after the first quarter and allowed just three points in the second quarter as they built a 27-8 halftime lead. The lead ballooned to 30 points at 47-17 early in the fourth quarter, thanks to three consecutive baskets by Favors.

Ashley Jetton led South Paulding with 14 points, but Alexander held the Spartans to a total of seven field goals.

The Cougars return to action on Tuesday when they host that rematch with South Paulding. That game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
