Leadership Douglas Sells Christmas Trees to Benefit Meals on Wheels

The Leadership Douglas Class of 2014 is organizing and sponsoring a community-wide fundraiser to benefit the Douglas County Meals on Wheels Program.

The Douglas County Meals on Wheels Program delivers free, warm meals to senior citizens in our Douglas County community. In order to raise the funds for the project we will be hosting our first ever Leadership Douglas Festival of Trees Silent Auction! The trees will be available for a “Purchase Now” price or each tree can be bid on during our “Silent Auction” the week of Monday, Dec. 2 and ending on Friday, Dec. 6, at noon.

The goal is to auction 30 trees this year and raise at least $4,000 for the Meals on Wheels Program this Christmas season.

“The Leadership Douglas Class of 2014 is excited to host Douglas County’s first ever Festival of Trees Silent Auction.  We feel this will be a fun way to get the community involved in helping our senior citizens. Douglas County’s senior citizens are very dear to our class and we are honored to be able to give back to these individuals who have given so much of their own lives.”

The Douglas County Meals on Wheels program successfully delivered 35,831 meals to 249 home-bound seniors in 2012. Federal funding for this program has recently been cut by $24,638, which means 2,855 meals won’t be paid for and won’t be delivered. Just $8.63 pays for one meal (preparation and delivery). These homebound seniors depend on this food to live.
