Irish Bred Pub Renovates Second Floor, Anticipating New Balcony

The Irish Bred Pubs second floor has been totally remodeled and a new balcony will soon be built.

Plans are on the horizon to add a beautiful, new second floor balcony to the Irish Bred Pub, overlooking O'Neal Plaza and historic downtown Douglasville, but the restaurants owner decided to remodel the second floor first.

"Thanks to a great team effort within a very short time, our renovations are complete and we couldn’t be happier with the end result," said Pub Owner Neil Jenkins in his monthly newsletter.

The second floor's new look now features a 44-foot, hand-built bench and interior beams created to match the look of the building's original 1890 style. An archway now runs the length of the floor, with wine barrels made into tables and the high tables replaced with beautiful low tables created out of used materials.

"We can now accommodate more large groups who are looking for comfortable seating," Jenkins said. "Secondly, the image has always been that our second floor was more of a bar atmosphere even though we
offer our full menu upstairs too. The new look offers a much warmer and cozier dining atmosphere.

"Finally, we are being asked more and more to host special events such as
birthdays, reunions, wedding rehearsals, etc, and so we wanted to create an ambience that truly provides a Pub feel, along the lines of our first floor," he said. "We also wanted to increase the seating capacity which has now become approximately 125 (compared to 90 before).

"Hopefully our guests will agree the design and layout we have created upstairs achieves the above goals," Jenkins added. "We’re genuinely excited by the end result and with the exterior wrap-around balcony coming over the next 6-8 weeks, we believe we’re creating an establishment everyone can enjoy whether it be for lunch, dinner or a special occasion.

Jenkins pointed out that thanks goes to Len Covington of LC's General Contracting, the original builder of the pub and the firm who will be building the pub's new balcony.

The second floor balcony will seat approximately 50 guests with seating for a further 40 guests underneath on the first floor covered patio.

Jenkins also thanked Miller Architecture & Planning (Terry, James & Lyndsey), local contractor Kim Cole and his crew - Steve and Dylan, and our trusted electrician, Mike McKenny and his team from K-Mac. However, Mary and Neil, would like to thank two guys in particular who worked magic throughout the last three weeks to transform the second floor into how it looks now - Alan Parsons and our very own Nytavien Elliot.

"You guys simply rock!" he said.
