Back to (Home) School

Making choices and reasons for homeschooling.

With school starting in several counties, I am reminded of some things. One, that I am old, two, that traffic will start to suck again. Three I am so glad that I will once again have the chance to see kids make ugly faces at me from the school-bus. And then I am so happy that we are a homeschooling family.

Homeschooling rocks. My kids are allowed to sleep in (which they never do), they are allowed to work at a pace and keep learning and not be held back by others.  We don't have to worry about teachers or a school district that don't care about our kids.  We don't have to think that our kids are being cheated and not given the chance to really learn something.  We are able to control what our kids learn. Don't have to worry about what other children are saying to my kids.

While I feel that I am in great position to have our kids homeschooled I do realiaze that not everyone can do this. I am able to let my wife stay at home and be a learning coach to our kids. I a not a fan of the public schools in our area and I also know that many other parents might not be as well but cant do what we do.

Some other things that give me a peace of mind since we homeschool is that the kids do not have to ride a bus. There is no way that I would ever let my kids ride the bus. Before school and after school programs. What a joke. Now that is my opinion and I cant believe that some kids spend more time in a school setting than at a home setting.  With this too I also know that some parents have to work many hard hours to be able provide for their children.

And since I work long hours myself, I am glad that we homeschool because it gives me the chance to spend some time with the kids and they don't have to go to bed so early. They can stay up later and have some "Daddy Time". I don't want my kids spending more time at a school then they do at our Home.
