WGTC CEC Wins Academy of the Year Award

The West Georgia Technical College Central Educational Center won the Academy of the Year Award on Nov. 14.

The Central Educational Center was named the inaugural winner of the “College and Career Academy of the Year” award from Lt. Governor Casey Cagle at his annual business and education summit at Effingham College and Career Academy November 14.

There are soon to be 30 college and career academies in the state of Georgia with CEC serving as the pioneer model.

“When it came time to select our first ever College and Career Academy of the Year, the Central Educational Center was an obvious choice,” said Lt. Governor Cagle. “The tremendous partnership between Coweta County Schools, West Georgia Technical College, and the local business community has produced an incredible, world-class educational institution that is leading Coweta County into the bright economic future of tomorrow.  But they’re not only doing great things in Coweta- they have embraced their leadership role and are encouraging and supporting similar academies in communities across the state.”

Other finalists for the award included Floyd County College and Career Academy, Golden Isles Career Academy, Effingham College and Career Academy and Clarke County College and Career Academy.

“We are proud to be a part of the CEC and we are thankful for their collaboration and support throughout the years,” said West Georgia Technical College President Dr. Skip Sullivan. “We look forward to continuing to impact students’ lives as well as the surrounding community.”

West Georgia Technical College, with campuses in Carroll, Coweta, Douglas, Haralson and Troup counties, class sites in Heard and Meriwether counties, and a virtual learning campus, offers more than 115 associate degree, diploma and technical certificate programs of study. A unit of the Technical College System of Georgia, West Georgia Tech is the third largest of the state’s 25 technical colleges.
