Volunteers have become "Teachers for a Day" today, in schools all over the county, as part of a program that allows them to shadow a teacher for a half school day.

At least 13 schools are participating in the program today, which partners the Douglas County School System with the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce.

In the attached video, Stephanie Parson, of the Georgia Farm Bureau and a parent, is a guest teacher in Debra Harrington's 6th Grade reading class at Yeager Middle School. Parson promotes agriculture education in the classroom and around the county.

“Teacher 4 a Day” is a program adopted by the Douglas County School Superintendent, Dr. Gordon Pritz and Chamber President and CEO, Kali Boatright. This program allows members of the community to visit one of the 33 schools and two specialized programs schools in Douglas County. School teachers from each grade will be paired with a local member of the community who will experience a typical day in the teacher’s shoes. Participants are not placed in their children’s classrooms.

Guest teachers are exposed to the many exciting programs offered in schools as well as gaining first-hand insight into the challenges that schools face on a daily basis. “We feel it is highly important for members of our community to see what goes on in our schools,” commented Boatright, “many of our members, like myself, have children in the school system, and this is a great way to see what happens after the first bell. The Chamber is proud to support this program and is looking forward to sending our community back to school!”
