New Cameras on School Buses Will Target Vehicles Breaking the Law

The cameras are a part of a partnership between the sheriff's office, county school board and American Traffic Solutions, makers of the product.

If your driving is suspect while you’re near a stopped Douglas County school bus, it’s going to be caught on camera.

And, you may be fined $300.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Phil Miller announced on the agency’s website a partnership that has installed motion-sensing video cameras on the buses to “give detailed information on vehicles that fail to stop for loading and unloading of our children from school busses.”

The system goes into effect March 1.

The system, called CrossingGuard, is designed to detect when a vehicle fails to stop while a bus is stopped, then generate images that are sent to the sheriff’s office, which decides if there’s been a violation.

If so, a citation is sent to the registered owner of the vehicle in question with details on how to pay the $300 civil fine.
