honors area high school seniors with our Outstanding Citizen Program. The program has two parts-a monthly award and a yearly award. Each month during the school year, each high school in Douglas County nominates one senior to receive the Outstanding Citizen of the Month award.
Recipient selection is based on several criteria relating to character, integrity, conduct, participation in school and extracurricular events as well as community involvement. The program is not academics based.
After the students are selected, representatives from Hightower’s Memorial Chapel and Cremation Service schedule a presentation and photo appointment at each school to present the student with a plaque and a check for $50.
Each of the monthly students are then eligible to receive the Outstanding Citizen of the Year award. One senior from each high school is selected by the staff of Hightower’s Memorial Chapel and Cremation Service based upon the criteria given each month by the school. These seniors are then presented with an award and a check for $500 at their senior awards event.
