Congressman Awards Local Grads Scholarships

David Mahone and George Roberts were among those awarded the 2012 Congressional Black Caucus Spouses Education Scholarship by Congressman David Scott.

 Today Congressman David Scott (GA-13) andhis wife, Alfredia, honored six area students who received a total of $10,000 in scholarship awards through the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Spouses and Foundation scholarship programs.

“By earning these awards, each student has demonstrated strong work ethics and a high commitment to achieve excellence in their schools and communities,” said Congressman Scott.

Alfredia Scott was instrumental in securing the scholarships for the students as an active member of the CBC Spouses program. “It is with great pleasure that my husband and I commend each of these students for their exceptional academic achievement and we encourage them to continue to set high goals,” she said.

  • George Roberts, graduate, University of West Georgia

The CBC Scholarship Fund was established in 1988 in response to federal cuts in spending for education programs and scholarships. This program provides tuition assistance to enable students to fulfill their higher education goals. Since 2003, Scott and his wife have awarded $129,000 in scholarships to 65 students. For more information, students should contact Congressman Scott’s Office at 770-432-5405.
