Annette Winn Elementary Earns Highest Progress State Recognition

Annette Winn Elementary School has been named a 2013 Reward School in the Highest Progress category by the Georgia Department of Education.

Designations of schools as Title I Reward and Alert Schools are part of the state’s waiver from the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).

A “High-Progress School” is a Title I school among the 10 percent of Title I schools in the State that is making the most progress in improving the performance of the “all students” group over three years on the statewide assessments. A school may not be classified as a High-Progress School if it has been identified as a Priority, Focus, or Alert School.

“I am elated that Annette Winn has shown such great gains that they have earned this state recognition,” said Title I Coordinator Lisa Dunnigan. “Many demands and challenges are placed on educators as they strive to do their best with students. The Annette Winn staff, students and parents can certainly be proud of this accomplishment.”

Melanie Manley is the principal of Annette Winn and Patty Hadley is the assistant principal.

“Our staff works diligently each day to foster student achievement by having high expectations for all of our students,” said Ms. Manley. “This award is the result of a team effort by the entire staff, student body and parents of Annette Winn Elementary School. We are extremely proud to
be honored as a Reward school.”

“Annette Winn has distinguished itself among Title I schools in Georgia with this recognition from the Georgia Department of Education,” said Douglas County School Superintendent Dr. Gordon Pritz. “Their teachers have demonstrated a strong focus on student achievement in a caring, supportive environment.”
