POLL: How Much Would You Be Willing to Pay to Text a Doctor at Any Time?

A new app provides a way for patients to have unlimited text access to a doctor.

By Kristi Reed

How would you like to be able to ask a doctor a question any time of the day or night? If you are willing to pay for it, you can do just that.

The First Opinion app pairs users with one of the company's vetted doctors. Once matched with a physician, the user can begin their first chat with a doctor at no charge. After the initial chat, users will have the option to pay $9 a month to subscribe to the service,Techcrunch reports

The First Opinion app store listingpromises users private, secure conversations with their assigned doctor.

"It's first name only within First Opinion. That way there is no question too small or too weird. Text a doctor, now, with complete anonymity," the listing states.

First Opinion is not the only company working to make virtual house calls available. Doctor on Demand uses video conferencing to enable patients to speak about non-emergency issues with a doctor using a smartphone, tablet or personal computer. The service charges $40 per consultation and offers instant or scheduled appointments.
