Veterans Day Lighted Parade Tonight

The Twelveth Annual Veterans Day Lighted Parade will step off tonight at 7 p.m. from Douglas County High School, and the public is invited to line the streets to salute our military, veterans and our nation's flag.

The Twelveth Annual Veterans Day Lighted Parade will step off tonight at 7 p.m. from , and the public is invited to line the streets to salute our military, veterans and our nation’s flag.

This year’s parade will be led by members of the Sweetwater and Town and Country Garden Clubs who will be carrying 48 roses in honor and memory of the 48 Douglas County citizens who have been killed in action. The parade’s color guard will be from the U.S. Navy Sea Cadets. Bagpipers will lead the opening music, and will be accompanied by veterans bearing U.S. flags.

Military vehicles, personnel, and JROTC units from Douglas County, and will be in the procession, as will the Unified High School Band representing all of the high schools in Douglas County.

Veterans will be represented by American Legion Post 145, AMVETS Post 118, the Vietnam Veterans of America and other veterans who will be walking or riding as individuals. The Historic Marietta Trolley will be in the parade to carry any veteran or active military who wishes to ride in the parade. World War II veteran/Pearl Harbor Survivor Leonard Santangelo will be riding in the Trolley.

Citizens will be saluting our veterans, active military and our flag. Groups registering include the Beulah Bulldogs Youth Football and Cheerleaders; Pack 950 from Lithia Springs United Methodist Church; employees; Pack 1990 from ; the Girl Scouts Twin Paths Service Unit; ; American Heritage Girls; Marty Massey Towing; and Dixie Wreckers.

The parade will be filmed by dctv23 for later broadcast. Filming will take place on Campbellton Street adjacent to .

Last-minute entries are always welcome in the parade. Register by calling 404-405-0401. All entries are required to salute our veterans, active military or US Flag. No self-promotion is allowed.

The parade begins at Douglas County High School; then proceeds north on Campbellton Street; west on Church Street; and south on Bowden, Woodrow and Campbellton Streets back to the high school.

All units are encourage to “light” themselves up!
