Road Opening to Relieve Congestion

The new roadway will be used by Douglas County Rideshare vans and GRTA buses, as well as general traffic, to relieve some traffic congestion on Fairburn Rd. and Hospital Drive.

The work on the Duralee Lane Extension Project is substantially complete, and the cut the ribbon to officially open the roadway at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 3, at the western end of the project/intersection with Dorris Rd. The new extension will connect Fairburn Rd. to the Douglas County Courthouse campus, providing a new and more convenient access for citizens from the eastern part of the County.

The $1.5 million project was constructed by Blount Construction Company, Inc., and was completed ahead of schedule. The new extension begins at the Fairburn Rd./Duralee Lane intersection and goes west for 0.6 miles to Dorris Rd., coming out immediately adjacent to the County’s Multimodal Transportation Center. The project was paid with funds from the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority, and managed by the Douglas County Department of Transportation.

The roadway is substantially complete, but there are a few punch list items for Blount Construction to complete, so the roadway was “ceremoniously opened” on Jan. 3, and should be open to full traffic in mid-January.
