Voting Update: Delay Voting if Your Voting Location is an Elementary School

Local elementary schools are letting children out early today, at noon.

Douglas County voters who vote at an elementary school may want to avoid voting around the noon time frame today because the schools are letting students out at noon today. For example, at 12:09 there is quite a long line of cars at trying to pick up children. The parking situation won't allow cars to simply get in and out and vote. The wait time is at least 20 minutes.

Otherwise, inside the school's gymnasium, Polling Manager Gail Smith said things have been going smooth so far today. There has been a steady stream of people since 7 a.m., ranging from two to ten voters at a time. The Bill Arp voting location has 10 touch-screen voting machines.

"There's no reason not to come out today," she said. "It's a pretty day outside and there's no wait for a machine."

There have already been more than 200 people who have voted at the Bill Arp location, she said.

The situation down the street at is pretty similar.

Polling Manager Rosemary Crockette said that more than 100 people have voted so far.

She said she has been a little surprised at the light turn out but there has been no waiting at all so far. Dorsett Shoals Elementary has eight touch-screens.

Headed into the school to vote, husband and wife H.C. and Jamie Moody came out together today to vote. "We're just doing our duty," he said.

At 12:50 p.m., there is no one standing in line to vote at and there is lots of available parking. Assistant Poll Manager Ron Altomare said that 155 people have voted at the church, so far, and there hasn't been a line yet. The church has eight touch-screen voting machines available.
