Live Healthy Douglas Earns Governor's Award

The Live Healthy Douglas Coalition was recognized on April 10 at the Governor’s annual Red Ribbon Recognition Award for its community anti-drug events. Without offices, the coalition donated the plaque to the courthouse to share the recognition with the community.

The Live Healthy Douglas Coalition has led the campaign against alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs for the last 11 years. This year’s Power In Truth Conference on Oct. 23 will mark the 12th conference held for the middle and high school students of Douglas County.

"This year, we have been fortunate to have the sponsor Power In Truth, so we will be having our 2012 conference," Bev Kartheiser said, health educator. "I invite all of you to mark your calendars and plan to drop in on our conference this year and see what our young people are learning. The date is Oct. 23, at the , beginning at 8:20 a.m.

"Our Red Ribbon Week activities have provided opportunities for youth to claim their voice and develop a vision for changing the alcohol/ drug environments in their community," she said. "The participating youth are challenged to promote a drug-free life to fellow community members and to encourage other youth to join them in their pledge to live drug-free."
