Jones Guider to Host Town Hall Meeting

District 4 Commissioner Ann Jones Guider will host a town hall meeting on July 20.

Douglas County District 4 Commissioner Ann Jones Guider will host a Town Hall Meeting on Saturday, July 20, at the Dog River Library to discuss the prospective property tax millage rate, bond issues proposed for the November ballot, and other issues of concern to citizens. The meeting will be held in the Community Room of the Library at 6100 Georgia Highway 5. All citizens, regardless of residence, are welcome to attend and participate in the meeting.

Commissioner Guider called the meeting to present information and receive input from citizens on the prospective tax increase which the Board of Commissioners is considering in late June. The Board of Commissioners is required to determine its property tax millage rate on or before July 31 of each year. The prospective rate increase to be considered has been announced to be 2.951 mils, and is due to the continuing drop in property tax values.

In addition, the Board of Commissioners is considering putting bond issues on the November ballot for voter consideration for the following issues: (1) radio system for the Sheriff’s Department; (2) Parks and Recreation improvements; (3) road improvements; and (4) Fire Department equipment.
