Gov. Deal Enacts New Ward Map

HB 1264 only needs to get clearance from the Department of Justice to finalize new Douglasville City Council ward boundaries.

The will have new City Council ward boundaries after Gov. Nathan Deal signed HB 1264 into law on Wednesday. Once the new boundaries get clearance from the U.S. Department of Justice, here is how the new wards will stack up, according to the attached map:

The yellow area in the upper left hand corner of the map is Ward 3, which continues to have LaShun Burr Danley in Post 1 and Samuel Davis in Post 2. They are both up for election in 2013.

Below that, in the grey-colored area, is the new Ward 2, which is now a superward represented by two council seats. Dennis McLain is in Post 1 and is up for election in 2013 and Post 2 is Mark Adams who is up for election in 2015.

Moving down further, in the red area, is Ward 1, which includes Arbor Station, now represented exclusively by Larry Yockey who is up for election in 2013.

To the right of that, in the orange area, is Ward 4, which includes Grace Lake and Chapel Hill, represented by Doug Lequire. His seat is up for election in 2015.

Finally, the blue area, in the eastern part of the city is Ward 5, which includes Tributary–now a single ward, which is represented by Carl Pope. This seat is up for election in 2015.

Pope, however, is the only council member who does not live within the new ward he now represents. If he wishes to run in 2015, he will have to run in Ward 4, leaving Ward 5 an open seat in the 2015 election.
