Gingrich Gets Douglas Vote; Nearby Cities Approve Sunday Sales

Gingrich received 6,297 Douglas County votes and Powder Springs and Austell approve Sunday Sales.

Newt Gingrich overwhelmingly earned the vote of residents in Tuesday's Presidetial Primary, according to the Douglas County website, with 6,297 votes or 55.36 percent of the vote.

Here's how the rest of the presidential field finished:

Rick Santorum received 2,264 votes (19.91 percent);

Mitt Romney received 2,102 votes (18.48 percent);

Ron Paul received 635 votes (5.58 percent);

Michele Bachmann received 26 votes (0.23 percent);

Rick Perry received 19 votes (0.17 percent);

Jon Huntsman received 13 votes (0.11 percent);

Buddy Roemer received 11 votes (0.10 percent);

Gary Johnson received 7 votes (0.06 percent).

With a vote of 986 (62 percent) for and 605 (38 percent) against, package alcohol sales will be permitted between 12:30 and 11:30 p.m. on Sundays in Powder Springs, in the West Cobb Patch. The new law will go into effect as soon as the Board of Elections & Registration certifies the vote totals.

Austell voted to approve Sunday Sales 260 (59.23 pecent) for and 179 (40.77 percent) against, in the Marietta Patch. Marietta voted 4,983 (70.99 percent) for and 1,645 (29.01 percent) against and Unincorporated Cobb voted 54,314 (69.77 percent) for and 23,534 (30.23 percent) against.
